    Enchanted Embroidery

We’re back today with more embroidery inspiration!  Once again, Donna McCauley has worked her magic with Westalee Design rulers on an embroidered panel.   She started with this elegant reindeer:

Using the Janome Ruler Work Kit designed by Leonie West of Westalee Design, Donna created an enchanting background for this magical creature.  The templates used were the Simple Pointed Oval and the 8″ x 3″ Straight Ruler.

Donna use an aqua thread that matched the embroidered portion of the panel.  Most of the pattern was created using the Pointed Oval Template.

We hope you’ve enjoyed these embroidered inspirations!

    Plumes With Pizzazz!

We all know how much Westalee Design rulers & templates can enhance our quilting, but did you know they can take your embroidery project to a whole other level?  Donna McCauley, a Westalee Accredited teacher, shows us how with this gorgeous project she calls “Plumes for Sarah”.

Before it was quilted, the embroidered panel was quite pretty, as you can see here:

However, by adding some quilting, the panel is transformed!

Donna quilted it using only the 6” Spiral template from the Westalee Design Sampler Set, and a medium gold-toned Isacord embroidery thread.   Donna finished her panel by binding it in a beautiful gold fabric.  If you want to try this yourself, Donna said your thread selection is very important.  Have you used your Westalee Design templates and rulers on any embroidered projects?  If so, we’d love to see them!  Send your pictures to info@sewsteady.com.

Donna used the Westalee Design oval Snowflake template from their Spin-E-Fex Snowflake Template Set to make fabrics from her stash bloom into hexagon hydrangeas!

It just goes to show you, snowflakes aren’t just for winter anymore – they’re a year-round occurrence!  We’re giving away a set of these versatile templates on our Facebook page. Check it out here:  Snowflake Giveaway

    Geraldine’s Pillow Project

A while back, we shared this fabulous pillow by Geraldine Wilkins, the Living Water Quilter, on our Facebook page. We mostly focused on the front of the pillow, where she used the Westalee Decorative Ruler Foot, and also a Westalee Design Spin-E-Fex template to accentuate that striking geometric fabric.

Today however, since we’ve been posting about the Westalee Design Snowflake Templates on Facebook, we thought we’d talk about what Geraldine did to the back of her pillow. Of course, she used a Westalee Design Snowflake template!

We love how the quilting design emphasizes the snowflake print pattern, instead of overpowering it. Simple, yet striking.

Beautiful job Geraldine!  To read more about how Geraldine crafted this pillow, check out her blog post here: Modern Decor Pillow

Inspiring Mug Mat From Geraldine Wilkins

Fall is in the air, and there’s no better way to get warm and cozy than with a mug of your favorite hot beverage.  That hot beverage is extra special when you have a beautiful and inspiring mug mat to set it on. Geraldine Wilkins, aka the Living Water Quilter, has crafted a project that fills the bill perfectly.

Geraldine has created this beautiful mug mat using the June Tailor Quilt As You Go Log Cabin Mug Mat kit,  and some wonderful fabrics from the Island Batiks Fall 2018 collection. What elevates this mat to the next level is the quilting! Geraldine used the Clamshell SOC2-H ruler from the Westalee Design Clamshell Template Starter Set , and the Westalee Design 12″ Arc Template to add texture and interest. For a more detailed look at this project, be sure to visit Geraldine’s blog.

Quilted Placemats With Kate – Full Reveal!

Remember a while back when we teased you with a sneak peek of a project that Kate Quinn was working on? Well, we’re so thrilled that we can finally give you a full reveal!

Kate created these beautiful placemats with her Westalee Design Templates, and they are just as gorgeous on the back as they are on the front.

The base placemats were made with the June Tailor Casablanca Quilt As You Go kit. We love these kits, because you spend less time getting your project together, so you can spend more time using your Westalee Design templates to take them from really cute to really amazing! Kate also used YLI Machine Quilting variegated cotton thread, Hoffman Batik Solid for the backing, blue fabric from Wilmington Prints, red fabric by Henry Glass and Co., and a few fabrics from her stash.
